Kno Matter
(Bands from Perth, Australia)

Kno Matter played many gigs in the mid 1980's and were often as celebrated for their stage performance as for their musical abilities.

Drummer Russ Wilson had played in a number of well respected Perth original bands including Devils On Horseback and vocalist and guitarist Matt Wilson would go on to help create local circus troup Bizircus and eventually become a part of the legendary Circus Oz.

Some of Kno Matter would also go on to form party band extraordinaire the Bad Music Billies. Those guys played the soundtrack to some outrageous parties.

I have already posted a live track from Kno Matter, playing at the Red Parrot, but this is the A side to their only release (that I am aware of, at least).

I have been dropping in and out of your blog for quite a while now (Lime Spiders post) and suss that you are cogniscent with Perth bands in the 80s...

do you remember Tokyo Rose (7 piece all girl group)?

My wife was the mandolinist/singer/clown in that band and are long overdue for some sort of recognition!

Let me know if it rings a bell!

Yeah, this and the Attic Tapes track were their only recordings.

After Kno Matter, the drummer played in Greg Dear's Beautiful Losers.

hey David

Kno Matter also recorded some demo tracks, which I had a copy of but lost when I lent the cassette tape to a "friend" at work who suddenly got the sack and never returned the tape

I tried getting a copy from Russ Wilson (the drummer) a year or two back but he also only has a copy of the single as well ... such is life

btw, if nobody knows David's excellent work writing about the music scene in Perth in the late 1980s and early 1990s in the Perth indie rock fanzine Party Fears, check it out.

Cheers for the link :-D

Most of the old PFs are up now. The scanner is now in the teenage stepdaughter's room, so access to it is difficult ;-)

I've just rigged up a USB turntable and cassette deck and am going through those records and tapes I didn't leave with Ross Chisholm (of PF and RTR) when I left Perth. Just dug out Ian Underwood and Craig Hallsworth doing their solo acoustic show at the Coronado in 1989 or 1990 or so :-D IF I ever get around to ripping substantial numbers of these, and can contact the artists for their permission, expect a pile of really quite remarkable old shit to show up on http://rocknerd.co.uk/ :-D
