The Waltons
(Bands from Perth, Australia)

The Waltons

The Waltons created some great music between 1985 and 1992. As the name suggests, the boys liked a bit of country, but they also liked a bit of pop and rock and they sure had some great melodies. Plus they were always up for putting on a good show, of which they played many.

The band only released 2 singles, both of which were well received, but they recorded many more songs, which have made their way into a limited edition CD release.

Like a lot of bands from this era in Perth, there is very little information floating about in the ether regarding The Waltons, but “John Boy” (aka Craig Wheel) has played in and led numerous Perth bands since the Waltons rode into the sunset in 1992. I was even lucky enough to play with Craig in a band in the mid to late nineties.

More from my past, I was a big fan of the Waltons. Would be very interested in finding a copy of the limited edition CD release.

hey Nick

glad you're liking the posts

i don't believe any of the Waltons CDs were made available in the shops? maybe check 78 Records ... and House of Wax (if it is still a happening thing - and speaking of which, i should try to post a Summer Suns track too)

i do believe that Craig has also occasionally gone under the pseudonym of Craig Wheel (purely for tax reasons .... )

you may catch Craig around town in his "Elvis" guise leading the Burger Kings

Yes I am enjoyinhg your posts.

House of Wax disappeared more than 5 years ago, Kim has been working in 78's since then. And if you been away from Perth that long, Dada's is not the store it use to be. But 78's and Mills still going strong.

Last time I saw Craig was at the Harbourside doing some solo stuff and with a band, with Dan Tarrant (aka Wally Walton) the bass player in Craig's previous bands Ep of the Gra, Glue Factory and the Waltons. But that was probably 8 years ago, though I have got photos from that gig tucked away somewhere (along with a few hundred other gigs).

I'm the person who remastered and compiled the Waltons CD back around 1998, mainly for my own enjoyment, and to preserve the music, which I love. It was all 8 studio sides followed by a large part of a good gig from 1991. I gave copies to each Walton, and ultimately a few more copies to various other people. It was never actually "released" as such, but I'm reliably informed that "Creepy Crawly Man" has crept onto some compilation album a few years back. I was also surprised recently to finf that the online CDDB database recognised my Waltons CD and could identify all the tracks on it. The genre it selected was "Country"!

By the way, you could've asked me to use the scan of that Waltons handbill image you nicked from my site!

Hey Trevor,

yeah, you sent me a copy of the Waltons CD about 3.5 years ago (after we met in Brisbane) and it is great. I didn't have all of the tracks previously, just the singles.

As you can see, Nick Cowie would like a copy of your CD too. I didn't send him a copy as I didn't think it was my place to do so (as you had given me the copy and put it together)

Sorry about nicking the Waltons image from your site, but I also linked to your site for everyone's additional information and i imagine you got some hits through that link. Let me know if you want the image removed from my blog.

cheers

Michael

The Waltons gigs were great. Cowboy hats, Coca Cola shirt and hobby horse. That is all you needed for a good night out in Perth. I would love a copy of that CD. Great songs, great memories
